We’re here to help.

We want you to feel confident and calm when you bring your pet to see us. During every single visit, we want to make sure that your entire family (pet included) is comfortable. Oz Animal Hospital is both AAHA Accredited and a Cat Friendly Practice.

Examinations

At Oz Animal Hospital, we offer comprehensive examinations that help evaluate the overall health of your pet. Regular physical examinations can detect problems in their early stages, before they become serious illnesses requiring prolonged treatment. Preventative medicine is the easiest, least expensive and most important way to keep your pet healthy. Early detection ensures prompt action that may solve the problem before serious consequences occur.

Wellness Exams
We take a thorough approach to your pet’s daily health.  Each consult includes a comprehensive physical exam, a nutritional assessment, a behavioral assessment, and tailored recommendations to maintain your pet’s best health.

Sick Visits
There’s nothing harder than seeing your companion not feeling well.  We have in-house capabilities to diagnose and treat your pet promptly, ensuring their needs are fully addressed.

Laser Therapy
Laser therapy can be helpful in the treatment of many different conditions such as chronic ear infections, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, lick granulomas, degenerative joint disease, arthritis, and hip dysplasia. Laser therapy also increases the healing speed for wounds and surgical sites. The therapeutic or cold laser emits low-level light that penetrates tissues and produces biochemical reactions within the cells. These reactions promote cell regeneration and healing and can decrease inflammation and pain.

At Oz Animal Hospital we can manage arthritic pain with medications, supplements, weight loss, and laser therapy. Our doctors and staff have been specially trained in laser therapy and can help customize a treatment plan for your pet.

Vaccines

We take the time to understand your pet’s lifestyle to recommend only relevant vaccines to their exposure.  We follow the most up to date recommendations on effective, minimal vaccine schedules to avoid overloading the immune system.  Each vaccine product used is carefully selected.  Most of our vaccines are non-adjuvanted and thimerosal-free, meaning they are free of added chemicals and materials that overwhelm some and are the main cause of vaccine reactions in animals.  We are confident in the safety of our vaccines and will even cover any expenses related to reactivity in the rare chance that one should occur.  We support vaccine titers where relevant.

Immunizations are a crucial part of your pet’s health care. Some immunizations are recommended yearly while others are given every three years. Usually administered during an annual exam, we work with you to develop an individual vaccine protocol that best suits your pet’s needs. While dogs and cats have some of the same vaccinations like rabies and distemper, they also have different vaccination needs based on the diseases that can affect their species.

Radiology

We are able to take high definition digital radiographs immediately and develop them in-house to provide timely diagnoses. In challenging cases, we have the ability to get immediate consultation with a board-certified radiologist. A radiograph (X-ray) is a type of photograph that looks inside the body and reveals information that may not be discernible from the outside. Radiography can be used to evaluate your pet’s internal organs like the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs, as well as bones. When it comes to accurately diagnosing your pet, radiology can be an extremely valuable tool in our diagnostic arsenal.

Ultrasound
An ultrasound exam is a way of looking inside your pet’s body (liver, kidneys, and intestines) without having to perform surgery. The ultrasound machine sends sound waves into the body and then listens for the echoes, the machine then uses these echoes to form a picture of the inside of your pet! Don’t worry, these sound waves are too high in pitch for us, or any of our patients, to hear and produce no harmful effects as a diagnostic tool.

An ultrasound exam helps identify structures in the abdomen not obvious in radiographs, aids in urine sample collection, monitoring and detection of pregnancy, and aids in the detection of disease in the chest.

Dentistry

Our staff is trained in the latest surgery and dentistry techniques and our Operating Room is state of the art and fully equipped. We take General Anesthesia extremely seriously- our standards of monitoring and recovery care are at the highest. From full comprehensive monitoring to following the latest anesthesia drug choices we are confident in the safety of your pet under our intensive care.

Dental procedures are critical to maintain overall systemic health and to be free from chronic pain.  Each dental procedure includes full mouth x-rays to evaluate the roots of all teeth where disease often hides. We use ultrasonic cleaning to remove all accumulated tartar and are able to perform tooth root surgeries only if needed. We take the time after the procedure to explain the exact oral disease your pet had and the steps you can take in the future to prevent progression.

Clean teeth and healthy gums are essential to your pet’s health. Infections are more common in the mouth because they can go undetected for long periods of time. Our veterinary staff regularly performs oral exams, cleanings, and periodontal care as part of our comprehensive health care goals.

Some Signs of Dental Problems include:

  • Bad breath – one of the first signs of dental disease
  • A yellowish-brown crust of plaque on the teeth near the gum line
  • Red and swollen gums
  • Pain or bleeding when your pet eats or when the mouth or gums are touched
  • Decreased appetite or difficulty eating
  • Loose or missing teeth

Dental problems, if left untreated, can often lead to larger systemic problems in your pet due to oral bacteria entering the bloodstream and damaging the kidneys, heart, and liver.

Chiropractic Care
Animal Chiropractic is a field of animal health care that focuses on the preservation and health of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system. Why? Nerves control everything that happens in your animals. Anything adversely affecting the nervous system will have detrimental effects that will resonate throughout the entire body. The command centers of the nervous system are the brain and spinal cord which are protected by the spine. The spine is a complex framework of bones (vertebra), ligaments, muscles and nerves. If the movement and biomechanics of the vertebra become dysfunctional, they can interfere with the performance of the nerves that are branching off of the spinal cord and going to the all of the muscles and organs. As this occurs, your animal can lose normal mobility; resulting in stiffness, tension, pain and even organ dysfunction. Additionally, when normal movement is affected, and left unattended, it will ultimately impact your animal’s entire wellbeing and quality of life.
Ophthalmology
We are able to diagnose multiple ocular disorders such as Dry Eye, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Corneal Ulcers, etc. We are also able to perform some eye and eyelid correction surgeries.

Puppy and Kitten Visits
Your first consult will be an in-depth preparation of all recommended routine and medical care for your new companion. We will make a plan together on your pet’s recommended vaccines and care schedule while teaching you techniques to provide home care for your pet as well.

We also offer puppy socialization and training classes. Research tells us having these classes in young puppies with a certified trainer makes the biggest difference in the mental health of pets later in life. We want to ensure you and your pet have the best quality of life together in the future possible.

Laboratory

We have a full in-house laboratory in case of any urgent medical and are able to get immediate results for the best care. In our laboratory, we have the capability for many in house tests such as complete blood count, blood chemistry, urinalysis, fecal examination and many more. We also work closely with other laboratories for any out of office lab work. We utilize these tests to assess your pet’s overall well-being. This helps us detect the trouble brewing in the internal organs by providing important clues to disease.

We recommend annual lab work for our patients because research tells us up to 1 in 4 pets may have abnormalities and the earlier we catch a problem the higher the success in treating and managing.  We offer annual panel options at affordable pricing to accomplish this.

If your pet has a growth or infection, we are able to complete immediate in-house testing to assure they get the most appropriate treatment.

Pharmacy

We provide a full-service veterinary pharmacy for your pet’s prescription needs. Whether your pet is in need of a prescription medication or diet, you won’t have to go far. Our in-house pharmacy allows you to fill your pet’s prescriptions during your appointment so you don’t have to spend time waiting.

Surgery
Oz Animal Hospital’s veterinary surgical team has many years of experience and advanced training and is capable of providing safe surgical procedures for your dog or cat. We carefully screen your pet prior to surgery to be sure that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.  We determine the pain management techniques that are appropriate for your pet’s age, breed, and current health status prior to surgery as well.
We provide the same level of patient monitoring that you would receive if you were having surgery.   All pets that undergo surgery at Oz Animal Hospital are carefully watched and have their blood pressure, heart rate, rhythm, and blood oxygen levels monitored by a specially designated veterinary technician and high-tech equipment.   Your pet will receive pain medication before, during, and after the surgical procedure.
Our surgical facilities include:

  • Spay and neuter
  • Emergency surgery (laceration repair, wound repair and foreign object removal)
Pain Management

At Oz Animal Hospital, we believe in maximizing the comfort of your pet during and after his/her surgical procedure. Proper pain management improves your pet’s recovery and speeds the healing process. We use a multi-modal approach to pain management. A multi-modal approach refers to the layered administration of small amounts of different drugs to minimize any pain that your pet might feel during or after the procedure. Because we administer lower doses of each individual drug, your pet will experience fewer adverse side effects, more complete pain relief, and faster post-operative recovery.

Microchipping
This unique form of identification is an easy, yet permanent way to bring your pet home quickly should he/she become lost. The microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is implanted beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades and stays there for his/her entire life. This procedure is as easy and as painless as a vaccination.

Each microchip has a unique number. This number, along with information about the owner and pet, is added to a national pet registry. Most veterinary hospitals and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these implanted microchips. If a lost pet is found and a microchip is scanned it is easy for you to be contacted.
